About REANZ
REANZ is committed to providing opportunities for teachers to critically engage with the pedagogy of Reggio Emilia within the cultural context of Aotearoa.
Reggio Emilia Aotearoa New Zealand (REANZ) is a charitable trust that has been in existence since June 2009. There are eleven trustees of REANZ each of whom bring a considerable breadth of expertise and experience from a variety of early childhood – from teacher education sites, practitioners working in both the early childhood and primary sector, and those in other roles related to ECE. REANZ is committed to providing opportunities for teachers to critically engage with the pedagogy of Reggio Emilia within the cultural content of Aotearoa. One of the main aims of REANZ is that the knots and complexities that can emerge from these encounters with Reggio pedagogy and practice will cause educators to look more closely at their own ideas about education.
Since REANZ was established we have delivered many seminars that have covered topics such as: Embracing Educational Change; The Power of Pedagogy and Teaching the Early Years; Aotearoa New Zealand and Reggio Emilia – The Space Between; The Pedagogy of Listening; and the Power of the Environment and the Outdoors, to name a few. We have travelled to Kerikeri, Hamilton, Napier, New Plymouth, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill and we will go wherever a group of teachers would like us to travel. We have offered a series of conversation evenings and arranged centre visits to several inspiring centres.
REANZ supports a network of regional groups around the country. The regional networks provide local professional learning inspired by Reggio Emilia.
We facilitate annual study tours to the city of Reggio Emilia in Italy for groups of teachers who come back understanding that the place, the city and the people are the heart of the inspiration and pedagogy.
REANZ has strong values in our work with adults, values we believe are paramount in the footsteps we take on our journey with children.
You are invited to become a ‘friend’ of REANZ which is a group of people committed to disseminating and discussing the pedagogy within Reggio Emilia. REANZ has a membership of over 1800 members. Sign up to our email list to receive information about professional learning and study tours:
